Reigniting Our Sisterhood

11:30am-1:30pm   Sisterhood Lunch and Laugh -location: Plant City, 334 South Water St.  (Not Reunion Funded-pay on your own)

Open to Sorors and their family & friends, The Marketplace at Plant City is within walking distance from the Providence Omni Hotel. This is a plant-based (only) eating experience with a wide variety of culinary opportunities to expand your tasting delights. Lets gather together for a creative and healthy eating experience.  Please review the customized menu emailed to you for Sorors registered.  Please email your menu option for your meal choice in advance to crimsondivas50.com. 2:00pm-3:45pm   RISD Museum Tour - location: RISD, 20 North Main Street entrance, (included with registration but RSVP required via email to; discounted rates for additional friends or family are $10/adult, $5/child age 12 and under. Friends and family payment will be taken by cash or credit card only at the door, but please note the number of people on the registration link). Hosted by Sorors Judith Michelle Hill (RISD, Spr ‘76) and Shira Honore Armstrong (RISD, Spr ‘76), this will be a guided one-hour tour that starts promptly at 2pm. Titled “The Black Experience: African-American Artists from the RISD Museum Collection," the tour will culminate with a welcome meet and greet with Anthony Johnson, the RISD Director of Diversity and Inclusion. 

 

5:00pm-6:30pm   Mocktail Reception -location: Omni Providence Hotel

 (included with registration but RSVP required via registration link)

Invited guests and Sorors will be welcomed with a light pre-dinner fare to express appreciation to our reunion supporters. Come early to celebrate with Sorors while sipping on our Crimson Reunion Mocktail. Wear your brightest smile and look picture-perfect for our professional photographer!

 

6:30pm-8:30pm   Sisterhood Dinner -location: Omni Providence Hotel

(included with registration.  Must select dinner option through registration link by Oct 22nd.

A highlight of our reunion, we will gather to recommit ourselves to our  founding principles of Sisterhood, Scholarship, Service and Social Action. Black (uninterrupted) business attire is required.  No pants.

 

Song and Stroll Practice -location: Omni Providence Hotel 

Practice session 1 will be a night to remember and will show which decade did it better! Wear your comfy strolling shoes, Sorors!

Honoring Our Legacy

9:00am-12:00pm  Sisterhood Brunch - location: Omni Providence Hotel  

Please note that breakfast will be served at 9am (and cleared away at 10:30am) so that we may start our Brunch and Bond program on time at 9:30am. Please come to breakfast in your DST para as we will need to leave directly from the hotel to go to Brown's main campus.

             

-Never Knew A Love Like This 

Featuring a discussion by our own newly-minted author, Soror Sonji Robinson Joyner (JW, Fall ‘93) will discuss the concept of what it means to love in her new 21-day devotional titled, “Love Anyways.” She will be available to autograph her book which can be pre-purchased on Amazon at https://a.co/d/7bvOf1V.

 

-Brunch and Bond 

This fun and engaging activity is about fostering deeper relationships among us. We are all bound to each other by our Sisterhood, but what else connects us? Moderated by Sorors Delores Rochester (Brown, Spr ‘96) and Sheronda Rochelle (Bryant, Spr ‘95), we will explore likes, dislikes, experiences, hobbies, and professional areas that we have in common or want to learn more about. Think of it as networking, Soror-style!

 

-Song and Stroll Practice 

Practice session 2 will be a chance to make sure your pitch is just right (or drowned out by your line-sister!). Regardless of what you forget, just remember to follow what the Soror in front of you is doing!

The remainder of our reunion activities will transition to Brown University’s campus

12:00pm-2:00pm    The Green Goes Red - location:  Main Green

Sing real loud, Strut real proud, and Stroll real hard, Sorors!! We are turning the main Green on Brown’s campus Red with our colors!! Start relearning our songs and charge your phones for a repeat of the tradition started at our 45th!

2:00pm-2:30pm   Monument Dedication - location: Churchill House

Hosted and organized by Soror Joelle Murchison (Brown, Fall ‘93), we will  gather on Brown’s campus to commemorate the future location of the LI monument targeted to be unveiled in March 2024.

 

8:00pm-10:00pm   Arts Salon - location:  Salomon Center

BAR co-organizer,  Soror Candace Berry-Vaughn (Brown, Spr ‘83)

This Arts Salon is designed to spotlight a diverse array of artistic talents within the Brown alumni community including artwork, musical performances, and spoken word.  The comedic expertise of Soror Donna Lewis (JW, Spr ‘80) and the original artwork of Soror Lydia Boddie-Rice (Brown, charter line ‘74) will be featured events of interest to alumnae Sorors.

Empowering Our Future

11:00am-12:30pm   Standing in our Power! Leveraging the Strength of the Black Vote

BAR workshop co-facilitated by the Alumnae of the Lambda Iota Chapter 

Black voters have emerged as a muscular political force and one of the most intensely courted constituencies in politics today.  An inspiring panel of speakers will explore how Black voting power can leverage outcomes from state, local, and national politics up to the Supreme Court. Moderated by Soror Akosua Ali (JWU, Spr ‘03), President of the DC Chapter of the NAACP

panels will include a discussion about Black Greek life.

 

2:30pm-4:30pm   Building Your Community Capital (Alumni Hall)

(BAR program co-facilitated by the Alumnae of the Lambda Iota Chapter)

This networking event is designed to provide guidance from experts on the process of networking, relationship building, and career navigation. Soror Miecha Ranea Forbes (Brown, Spr ‘96) lends her expertise to this community-building event by drawing on her experience as a human capital consultant and executive coach.

 

7:00pm-10:00pm   BAR Dinner Celebration  (Ruth Simmons Quad)

(BAR name tag is required for entry. There will be a reserved seating area for Sorors. Your dinner ticket is included with BAR registration but seating will be limited so complete your BAR registration early!)

Enjoy a celebratory evening with a panel discussion on the power of art, Black narratives and the important role that storytellers of Black history have in our society.  Special guests include Yoruba Richen ’94 (Film Director, Screenwriter), Hank Shocklee (Co-founder for Public Enemy), Karyn Parsons (Author and Actress),  and Richard Gray ’85 (Community Activist)

10:00pm-1:00am   Funk-Nite: Halloween Edition 

Crimson Divas Strolling Through the Decades  (Alumni Hall)

(BAR name tag is required for entry)

This is where all that practice coordinating your hands with your feet will come in handy while you throw up the pyramid! Let’s answer the question of which decade did it better! The theme is Halloween flair so we’ll think of a creative way to “be in the spirit.”

10:00am-1:00pm     Gospelfest Sunday 

If you are a Brown alumnus and want to participate in the choir, please email Loni Berry (yes, Soror Candace Berry Vaughn’s talented brother) at loni@culture-collective.com. He will provide you with the list of songs with parts to practice beforehand. A 2-hour rehearsal will be held on Saturday afternoon.

50th Anniversary Reunion Community Service Project

Period Poverty

“Period Poverty” is the struggle that many low-income girls and women face trying to afford menstrual products.  The LI Chapter community service project for the LI50 Reunion is to collect and assemble menstrual products which will be later delivered to local women’s shelters. The Alumnae initiated through the Lambda Iota Chapter is supporting the chapter with this cause.  Please share and contribute to this effort by using this wish list link to purchase products to donate to the chapter.
